Explain the words in 2 Chronicles 36:6 that refer to Nebuchadnezzar taking Jehoiakim as a prisoner to Babylon in relation to the passages in 2 Kings 24:6 and Jeremiah 22:18-19 which talk of Jehoiakim dying in Jerusalem.


1. (2 Chronicles 36:6) Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against him and bound him with bronze chains to take him to Babylon.

2. (2 Kings 24:6) So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers, and Jehoiachin his son became king in his place.

3. (Jeremiah 22:18-19) Therefore thus says the Lord in regard to Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, “They will not lament for him: ‘Alas, my brother!’ or, ‘Alas, sister!’ They will not lament for him: ‘Alas for the master!’ or, ‘Alas for his splendor!’ “He will be buried with a donkey’s burial, Dragged off and thrown out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

Based on the context these verses were given, the analysis is that King Jehoiakim died during the attack by Nebuchadnezzar and his body was thrown over the gates of Jerusalem. Nebuchadnezzar then took the body to Babylon.

His death is a bit mysterious because it is not know whether he was taken to Babylon, or died in Jerusalem.

Based on the verses given above however, we can infer that he died during a siege (2 Kings 24:6) by Nebuchadnezzar and was then thrown over Jerusalem's gates like a donkey (Jeremiah 22:18-19). His corpse was then dragged off to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar.
