Foreground=Area in the part of the picture plane that appears nearest to you (closest to the front).
Middle ground = Area between the foreground (closest to the front) and background (furthest receded)
Picture plane=The surface the artwork is on OR a border in which an artist creates a composition.
Background=The part of the picture plane that seems to be farthest from the viewer.
Foreground is the part of the view or composition that is nearest to the observer, especially in a picture or photograph; in other words, it's going to be the part of the painting, print, photograph, or drawing that is closest to you or appears the largest.
