After the American Revolution, the people of the colonies wanted their independence. Along came several documents. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Theses documents outline Constitutional rights and laid the foundation for our democratic government. The United States were also able to establish new rules and laws that would protect the independence of the people.

Another way the ideas changed was through a conflict; How would the colonists create a government that was central and authoritative but was equally checked by the people? The idea of republicanism grew, WHICH, by the way, doesn't mean democracy is the same as a republic. A republic and democracy share a representative government and ear to the people, but in a republic, its constitution holds unalienable rights that the government can always withhold such as eminent domain. In a pure democracy, a government is almost powerless. The idea of the legislative, executive, and judicial branch showed how after the American revolution, a balance of power had to be maintained less they receive a new mad king.
