STP stands for the sewage treatment plant. It helps in purifying the water which comes from the domestic waste and the sewer system of the city.

There are two steps involved in the STP, these steps are as follows:-

  • Physical
  • Biological

Both these steps are essential for the treatment of the water. In the physical step, the physical debris is removed from the water but in the biological method, the microbes are used to decompose the organic amount and increase the oxygen content in it.

Hence, the microbes used in the process are anaerobic microbes such as bacteria and fungi.
