        The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is the official document signed on February 2, 1848, which signified the end of the Mexican-American war in favor of the United States.

    The war started in May 1846, over a  dispute in the boundaries of Texas.

      At the time of signing the treaty, an additional 525,000 square miles had been added to United States territory, including all or parts of present-day Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

     Mexico also ceded Texas to the United States and recognized the Rio Grande as the southern most boundary of the united States.
