In this activity, you need to find reliable Internet sources that 1) explain how concrete is made and used, and 2) describe its positive and negative impacts on society. You will also apply what you have already learned in the lesson. You'll need to find out about the ingredients, such as cement, that are mixed together to make concrete. For example, concrete is used in construction to meet people's needs. But it also requires the mining of natural resources. You might find reliable information about how concrete is made by looking at the websites of companies that make it. Trade organizations, such as those for construction workers and builders, are likely to have information about the ways concrete is used. However, these sites are unlikely to have reliable information about any negative impacts of concrete. Instead, try to use government, university, or respected news sites to find that type of information. In part 1, you will start by finding websites with information you can use in your research. The questions in part 2 will help you take notes. In part 3, you will make a flowchart that summarizes the information you've learned.
