y = x + 8

If their combined agee is 20, then;

x + y = 20

Substitute equation 1 into 2 to have:

2x + 8 = 20

2x = 20 - 8

2x = 18

x = 8

Since x + y = 20

y = 20 - 8

y = 12

Hence Aisha is 8 years old and her sister is 12 years old.
