People need freedom because it gives people a sense of purpose. For example, pre-civil war era, African slaves were not free. Most would rather die than live as a slave. They felt that without freedom their life was meaningless. Freedom also gives people strength and hope. In the american revolution, Americans fought with the idea of "Freedom" in their minds. Freedom yet again gave these people a purpose. Their purpose was to fight for independence. I've been using America as an example thus far but take any other nations history in which said nation had to fight to be free, the idea of freedom stays strong. That is why people need freedom.
