The Axis were the opposing forces of Japan, Germany, and Italy against the Allies; the United States, Britain, Soviet Union, and France.
Signed in 1940, the Tripartite Pact allied Japan, Germany, and Italy to strengthen their efforts during the war. They were eventually defeated one by one by the Allies, starting with Italy's surrender on 1943.
