Scout helped to diminish the tension with the mob at the jailhouse: A.By calling attention to Mr. Cunningham's entailment, she embarrassed him in front of the town, forcing him to leave in shame.

What is an entailment?

Entailment is a repercussion for something. When the mob gathered in the jailhouse to kill Atticus and Tom, Scout helped the situation by recognizing Mr. Walter Cunningham in the crowd.

She said that she went to school with his son and that he was a good boy. In this way, she was appealing to his sense of love by making him think of his role as a father which will prevent him from hurting a child.
