During the Civil War, Texas was one of those who responded
by joining the confederacy. When this happened, all the men were out to fight
in the battle. Thus, women stepped in to do work which was supposedly to be
done by men. The absence of men pushed women to take new roles such as doing
the farming and providing for the family.
