Respuesta :

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance. PATHOS

Pathos (C) is used in this excerpt, one of the charges (so-called "facts" in the original document) against King George III "submitted" in the U.S. Declaration of Independence (1776). Pathos is a rhetorical appeal that aims at persuading the audience by eliciting emotions. The goal of the speakers was to discredit the King of England at all costs, and to convince their readers that he was a tyrannical and illegitimate ruler. For that reason, they exaggerated those "facts" a little bit. For instance, the king had not sent "swarms of officers," but just fifty officials in order to prevent smuggling - colonists were trying to avoid paying taxes on the goods they consumed (paper, tea, glass, among others).
