Zick Rubi proposed a theory that love is a combination of three elements i.e. intimacy, attachment, and caring. He also states that love is a connection that's far more intense and deep, which has a desire a physical contact and intimacy with another person. John and Kate both have strong attraction for one another.

Hatfield and Walster (1978) stated “A state of intense longing for union with another. Reciprocated love (union with the other) is associated with fulfillment and ecstasy.'' Both John and Kate wants to spend time with one another which means they are in love with each other.

Robert Sternberg's triangular theory of love proposes that ''love is composed of three components i.e. intimacy, passion, and commitment.'' Both John and Kate are passionate and attachment to one another.
