Political and economic reforms the Populists proposed in their platform during the populist movement:

• Australian (or Secret) Ballot was adopted in the early 20th century due to the fact that many voters were subjected to pressure or recrimination by employers as the vote was public.

• Popular Election of U.S. Senators. To stop bussines lobbies excerting influence over the selection of senator who was selected by the legislatures rather than the popular vote.

•  Direct Democracy. It was implemented seeking to give the people a more-direct voice in government.

• Banking Reform. The populists sought to end the national banking system as they believed that much of their economic hardship had resulted from bankers' unfair practices.

•  Government Ownership of the Railroads. They advocated for federal appropriation because they were intensely angry against the railroads for alleged price. During the Theodore Roosevelt administration, steps were taken toward reform of the railroads.

• Graduated Income Tax. A "graduated" tax meant that the rate of taxation would increase as one's income increased. The Populists considered the graduated income tax as a mean to pry loose a portion of the wealth of the nation's most prosperous citizens

• Free and Unlimited Coinage of Silver In 1892, they raised the silver issue.

• Postal savings banks established by the government for the safe deposit of the earnings and to facilitate exchange.

The amount of circulating medium be rapidly increased

• The union of the labor forces of the United States that should be permanent and perpetual
