A student is observing a group of fry, or young fish, in a pond. Because the fry appear identical in shape, size, and color, the student concludes that they were the result of asexual reproduction. Is this conclusion necessarily correct? Use scientific reasoning to support your answer.

Respuesta :

The conclusion of the fish undergoing asexual reproduction is False.

Sexual reproduction involves the production of offspring with unique

genetic make up. Asexual reproduction involves production of offspring with

identical or similar genetic make up as that of parents.

In this scenario, we were told the fry has identical shape, size, and color as

that of parents. These features fall under phenotype which are physical

traits passed from parents to offspring in both forms of reproduction.

This thereby doesn't necessarily make the young fish a product of asexual

reproduction.
