Putting together our knowledge of "The Call of the Wild" and Darwin's theories, we can answer in the following manner - the second answer is an example of a personal opinion:

  • In Jack London's "The Call of the Wild," the dog Buck is only able to survive the extremely difficult conditions he has to live in because of his strength and capacity to adapt and learn. That is precisely what Darwin's theories teach us. Only the animals and plants that are strong and can adapt to the environment survive.
  • I believe Darwin's idea is reasonable, but it makes sense in a natural, wild world. For us humans, that is no longer true. Even if we are born sick or with special needs, for example, it does not mean we are not going to survive. Scientific and medical advancements, as well as society, allow us to live.

What happens in "The Call of the Wild"?

  • The dog Buck is stolen from his comfortable home in the United States and taken to Canada to be a sled-dog. His new life is the complete opposite of what Buck was used to.
  • Still, Buck has a great capacity for adaptation. He learns what he should or should not do quickly. He is also a strong animal, which allows him to survive even the direst conditions.

How is that connected to Darwin's theories?

  • According to Charles Darwin, only the fittest survives. That means only those who are capable of adapting themselves to new, difficult conditions, and who are strong will survive in this world.
  • Buck embodies Darwin's theories since he only survives because he is the fittest. Other dogs would not survive the terrible treatment and harsh natural environment Buck is subjugated to.
