Why is it ironic that Laertes vows to cut Hamlet’s “throat i’th’ church” if necessary and that Claudius approvingly says that “Revenge should have no bounds”? What earlier religious moment in the play do their words recall?
It is ironic because it reminds us that Hamlet had the chance to kill the King while he was praying. Also because they will all die in the end because of their scheme.
