One of the most controversial cases in recent years in the United States was Massachusetts v. Environmental Protection Agency which occurred in 2007.

In this lawsuit, the plaintiff represented a group of cities and states (including Massachusetts) to demand that the EPA regulate the emission of pollutants because this issue was within the functions of this institution.

The result of this lawsuit was the obligation of the EPA to control the emission of pollutants because the majority of the judges voted in favor of this decision (5/9). However, this can be reversed through the intervention of the Supreme Court because it is an issue that is not related to the fundamental laws of the nation.
