California was inhabited by nomadic tribes. The people living in California lived a hunter-gather lifestyle. The tribes survived daily and there was no deeper development.

During this period, there were no developments such as technological inventions or writing. The California Indians never built great settlements.

This made the area geographically isolated. The people had difficulties communicating with the people outside California. They couldn't cultivate their crops due to their drylands too.
