Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a disease condition whereby there is increase in blood sugar due to the inability of the body to produce enough insulin which is the hormone needed for the body cells to take in glucose.

The signs and symptoms that Ms. Gutierrez may have had to indicate she has type 2 diabetes mellitus includes the following:

  • There would be increased urge for fluid or water. This condition is also called polydipsia.
  • Increase in urination which usually occurs at night.
  • Visual impairment. This usually occurs as a blurred vision.
  • Increased appetite leading to extreme hunger.
  • A fasting blood sugar of 126 mg/dL and above.

These signs and symptoms where observed by the Doctor which led to the testing of Ms. Gutierrez for type 2 diabetes mellitus.

To conclude if Ms. Gutierrez has type 2 Diabetes Mellitus the ethnicity should be considered as some individuals for a particular ethic group are predisposed to diabetes mellitus than the others.
