Atomic radius and ionization energy

Alkali metals have higher atomic radius as compared to other groups due to less number of protons and neutrons in their nucleus. Alkali metal elements have less valence electrons in their atoms , hence they least likely will to gain electrons but to lose it to get stability.

The valence electrons in alkali metals, are very far away from the nucleus so they can easily lose electrons with low energy and become cation so we can say that they have low ionization energy.
