This is the Winged Victory of Samothrace, created around 2nd century BC (190 B.C.). Its purpose was to spread the message of victory, so it is meant to be a messenger flying over Earth to spread news of a victory. In this case, the statue was created after a naval battle. This is why the statue looks like she just landed on the bow of a ship.
