Chromosome is made up of nucleic acids called deoxyribonucleic acids (DNA) which is located at the nucleus of cells.

It stores the organism's hereditary traits and directs the day to day metabolic activities of each cell in the organism.

Each nucleic acid is made up of an organic nitrogenous (nitrogen-containing) base.

These bases include

  • Adenine
  • Guanine
  • cytosine
  • thymine

The DNA molecule consists of two strands that curve spirally to form a double helix structure.

The strands are held together by hydrogen bonds between the base side arms. Therefore, each base on one strand will only pair with a specific base on the other strand.

Hence, guanine will only pairs with cytosine and adenine with thymine.

Since these two bases combine in equal quantity and guanine will only pairs with cytosine,the percentage that should be guanine is also 29%.
