Stephen dreamed he caught lots of fish. Of all the fish, 1/4 were salmon and 1/4 were halibut. The remaining 30 were herring. What fraction of the fish were herring? How many fish did Stephen catch in his dream? (PLEASE SHOW STEPS!

Since 1/4 of the fish is salmon, and the other 1/4 were halibut, then if you add it together you get 1/2. And since, the remaining were herring then, that is the other half because one fourth plus one fourth equals to a half. Then if you add a half plus a half, then you get a whole. whole. If the remaining is herring, then it is representing the half. So half (30) plus another half(30) equals to 60, which is the amount of fish Stephen caught in his dream.

total=salmon+halibut+herring
1=1/3+1/4+herring
12/12=4/12+3/12+hering
12/12=7/12+herring
minus 7/12 both sides
5/12=herring

herring=30

5/12 of all=30
time both sides by 12
5 all=360
divide both sides by 5
all=72



5/12 were herring
72 fish total
