What is the equation of a line in slope intercept form that is perpendicular to y=-4x -3 and passes through the point (4,-5)

y = -4x - 3...the slope here is -4. A perpendicular line will have a negative reciprocal slope. All that means is " flip " the slope and change the sign. SO our perpendicular line needs a slope of 1/4.

y = mx + b
slope(m) = 1/4
(4,-5)...x = 4 and y = -5
now we sub and find b, the y int
-5 = 1/4(4) + b
-5 = 1 + b
-5 - 1 = b
-6 = b

so ur perpendicular line is : y = 1/4x - 6
y=-4x -3 slope m = -4
perpendicular, slope m = 1/4

y + 5 = 1/4(x-4)...passes through the point (4,-5)
y + 5 =1/4x - 1
y = 1/4x - 6

answer: equation y = 1/4x - 6
