1) you isolate a variable, meaning you get either Y or X all by itself on one side of the equation, with no other numbers or variables on that side. That is already done with "y=5x-19"
2) so you have what Y equals. Y equals 5x-19. So, in the second equation, you substitute what Y equals in for the Y. So you get "5x-5(5x-19)=-5"
3) you solve that problem, and end up getting "x=5"
4) then, you substitute "x=5" into the first problem, getting "y=5(5)-19"
5) the answer you get for that is "y=6"
6) with x=5 and y=6, you have your answer (5,6)
