I believe that Baroque art originated from Italy around the 1600s.
To be more specific in Rome, Papal Sate, around 1600. Baroque had all the manifestations of artistic and literary activities. As its basis lay creative transformation of Renaissance classicism in an effort to achieve impact on the recipient, until 20th c. It was known as the "unofficial style of Catholic Church" and sometimes used to be nicknamed "Jesuit Style".
