The main difference between the 2 is that Ca, posses the complete number of electrons including valence electrons as per any atom of Ca. As a result it is electrically neutral, as it has the same number of protons as electrons. In terms of atomic radius, it is larger than Ca^+2, because 2 electrons have been removed from a valence shell, and thus the distance from the nucleus of the ion to the outer occupied shell is smaller than for the atom of Ca.
Ca is the short form of an element on the periodic table called Calcium.
Ca2+ is a cation called the calcium ion.
The difference between Calcium(Ca) and Calcium ion(Ca2+) is :
- Calcium is an element of the periodic table with all its outer electron(valence electron) complete while Calcium ion (Ca2+) is a Calcium ion that has lost two of its outer (valence) electrons.
- Calcium (Ca) is larger or bigger in size compared to Calcium ion (ca2+)
