To rid the forest of the species and using the fire to restore vegetation productivity and diversity of species (both plants and wildlife).
Juniperus virginiana is a invasive plant species which can occupy the entire land area if left unchecked. They have the ability to form dense stands as they produce thousands of seeds and spread very quickly to the entire land or the forest. They tend to occupy the forest and mask the growth of other plant varieties. They even occupy the grasslands and cover them completely. This leads in the reduction of the grazing capacity. Since they are fire intolerant, they pose of fire hazard to other plants and trees as they burn very quickly. They even absorb more water making other plants and trees deprived of the water supply. Hence, burning of cedars after cutting is recommended as it also eliminates the seeds dropped by the trees.
