Someone in a car going past you at the speed of 24 m/s drops a small rock from a height of 2.4 m. How far from the point of the drop will the rock hit the ground? The acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s^2. Answer in units of m.

We can use:
s = ut + 1/2 at²
to find the time taken for the rock to hit the ground, where u is 0.
2.4 = 4.9t²
t = 0.70

The horizontal distance covered in this time:
distance = speed x time
d = 24 x 0.7
d = 16.8 m
