The Graywolf was present in the park which was established in 1872 Between 1914 to 1926 at least about 136 wolves were killed in the park by 1940 the wolf were rarely reported. During the 1980 wolves began to reestablish breeding packs in northwestern part of Montana and 50-60 wolves inhabited Montana in year 1994.
