The first component of an argumentative research paper would be a strong introductory paragraph with a good thesis, stating your claim. You should then go to your body paragraphs, amount of paragraphs will vary depending on the size of the research paper. Within each body paragraph you will want to give reasons and evidence that will support your claim. You also want to address the counter claim, which is the opposing argument. You would state what the counter claim may be, and then state why your claim is the “better” argument. The ending of the argument should be the conclusion. This is where you will restate your claim, focus on that thesis and state some of the reasons you used in the essay.
