Let's take the example of a Giraffe. Its major physiological feature is the neck. And the environmental challenge was the height of the leaves.

What do you mean by Environment?

Anything which is present around the surrounding of an organism is called its environment. The environment may consist of biotic and abiotic factors.

When the neck of a Giraffe was usually shorter and does not reach up to the height of leaves. Now, Giraffe had to adapt to their environment by increasing their neck length. During the course of time, Giraffe achieved success and reach the height of leaves. Suddenly, this trait got passed into the next generation, and as a result, this Giraffe achieved a long neck.

In the future, it assumes that Giraffe will carry this trait, property, and features if required to adapt to environmental changes in the future as well. But it is only hypothesized.

Therefore, it is clearly understood the process of adaptation in past as well as in the future.
