The major similarity between a presidential democracy and a parliamentary democracy is that both of these types of governments are democracies. This is a fundamental similarity that is, perhaps, more important than any differences. Both of these forms of democracy allow people to vote for their leaders. Canada is a constitutional monarchy. The Queen, represented by the Governor General, is the head of state and the Prime Minister is the head of Government. The U.S. is a republic. The head of state and head of the Government are the same person: the President.
