There are an infinite number of equivalent ratios. To get an equivalent ratio, you must multiply or divide the numerator AND denominator by the same number. For example, 1/8 is also 2/16 because I multiplied the top and bottom by 2.
[tex]1/8[/tex] is the same thing as [tex]1:8[/tex] So if you do the equation [tex]1/8[/tex] or [tex]1:8[/tex] [tex]*2[/tex] [tex]=2:18[/tex] because [tex]1*2=2[/tex] and [tex]8*2=16[/tex] So the answer is also known as [tex]2/16[/tex] You have to multiply top and bottom by [tex]2[/tex].
