A kite is currently flying at an altitude of 19 meters above the ground. If the angle of elevation from the ground to the kite is 33 degrees, find the length of the kite string to the nearest meter

Respuesta :

in this case, the length of the kite string is the hypotenuse of a triangle, we will label ABC

we know that side length a is 19m, and the angle A is 33°. (remember side a and angle A are always opposite each other, same as side b and angle B etc.) From this information we can use SinФ = Opposite/Hypotenuse

1. fill in the information you know
Sin33°=19m/x

2. solve for sin33°
0.55=19m/x

3. Isolate x
x = 19/0.55

4. Solve
x = 34.5m

∴the length of the kite string is 34.5 m
