Andre’s first mistake was that he didn’t distribute properly or at all. Instead of using the distributive property to get rid of the parenthesis, he moved the x to the 1/4 and subtracted 12 to the other side. Mistakes continue to occur from there so the equation solved would be:
1/4 (x+12)=2
1/4x+3=2
1/4x=-1
x=-4

His mistake is that he does not open the bracket first. The value of the x is negative of 4.
