For each equation, tell whether or not it defines a linear function, and explain how you know.
Equation 1: y = 12 + 8
• Equation 2: 2x + 5y = 8
• Equation 3: y=-63
A linear function is usually in the form: y=Mx+c. In equation 1, there is no x term and same for equation 3, leaving your only and correct answer to be equation 2. And if you rearrange equation 2, you will get: 5y = -2x + 8.
