Engage in all types of learning.
Some students learn best by listening or reading or writing (note taking). But the combination of all 3 would give the student the best chance to comprehend. Students have their preferred method or - “listening to a lecture does nothing for me, I need to read from the textbook to learn”- so they stay in their comfort zone but engaging them threw multiple avenues is best.
Give a lecture to explain, engage students, ask them questions to make sure they are paying attention. Give them a reading assignment on the topic before the lecture or after to solidify knowledge. Allow them to take notes during class if they want and give them a writing assignment or a small project.
