In a mixture, each substance is still the same and don't really combine. In a compound, the substances are chemically combined (so the substances that went in have technically changed).
A compound contains atoms of different elements chemically combined together in a fixed ratio. While on the other hand, a mixture is a combination of two or more substances where there is no chemical combination or reaction.
