Today's explorers are certainly brave and talented, but they pale in
comparison with the heroes of decades past. When Ernest Shackleton
led his party to Antarctica in 1914, he did not have GPS, Internet, or a
cell phone. In fact, he barely had a map to follow, as very few people
had ever explored this area. He and his men experimented with the
proper clothing and food needed to survive harsh conditions, but they
did not have a century of experience to build upon. I think you'll agree
