The main idea was to comment on the plague being a devastating disease in the Elizabethan era. More devastating than the flu and malaria, which were very aggressive diseases, but the number of deaths caused by the flu, added to the number of deaths caused by malaria, were not enough to exceed the number of deaths that the plague, alone, decimated .
