The tilt of its axis is how it affects our climate. You see the earth has a tilt so we are not really going in a true circle. but when the top hemisphere is tilted to the sun we have summer, if tilted away winter. Its really a simple consept if you think about it :)

Effects of Earth's orbit on climate.
The orbit of the planet is due to the formation of the earth some 4.5 billion years ago due to the cosmetic evolution. The earth orbits the sun in an elliptical fashion and this influences the climate.
The answer lies in the earth's distance, direction, and axis of rotation.
- The spinning and rotatory motion of the planet is essential for the maintenance of distinct types of climate.
- The cycle of the climate is the effect of the lengths of day and night which is dependent on the sun's vertical rays and the angle they make with the surface. This is known as eccentricity.
