The Function of Chromosomes. Chromosomes are the thread-like structure found in the nuclei of both animal and plant cells. They are made of protein and one molecule of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
Chromosomes are long threads of DNA + proteins (proteins that regulate DNA function), stored in the nucleus of each cell. You have 46 of these threads in most of your cells. Each cell turns on the genes it needs for that particular cell's function
