The lysosomes are membrane-enclosed organelle, usually spherical. They contain a number of hydrolytic enzymes that are able to break down dfferent kind of molecules. However, to maintain the optimal conditions for enzymes to perform their function, pH in the lysosomes must bi acidic and thus maintained between 4.5 and 5.0. Apart from hydrolytic enzymes, the lysosomes contain substances involved in cell signaling and energy metabolism.

Lysosomes are small, membrane-enclosed, spherical organelles found in eukaryotic cells that function primarily in the digestion of dead cell organelles, macromolecules, and microbes that may harm the cell.

Due to their function as a digestive organelle, lysosome contains a diverse array of hydrolytic enzymes that are capable of degrading macromolecules and other materials to be digested by the organelle.

Some of the enzymes housed in the lysosomes include lipases, proteases, nucleases, sulfatases, etc.

The neutral or alkaline nature of the cytoplasm ensures that lysosomes do not digest themselves.
