The Olmecs are best known for creating sculptures of massive heads carved from stone. The heads were carved from a single piece of stone. These stones were transported some fifty miles to Olmec territory.
The name Olmec itself means "rubber people." The Olmecs learned to make rubber by combining two kinds of plant material. The Olmecs are known to have created a game that used rubber balls.
