Father Massanet was the first person from Spain to start mission settlement. He was originally trying to convert the Tejas Native Americans. But he failed and returned, then later on Father Hidalgo came to try and finish Massanet’s work. He was very successful, mostly because of the presidio nearby to protect the settlement.
