Good authors choose their words very carefully. Take a few minutes to write a short paragraph describing an experience you have recently had. Pick a location you went to or an event you attended. Once you have finished, read over what you have written. Now, write a second paragraph. In it, you will repeat the information from the first paragraph, but you will choose your words more carefully. 1st Paragraph: An experience I recently had was when I went to visit my grandmother in South Carolina. I hadn’t seen her in a while, so it was really nice to be around her. When I got there I noticed not many people had on masks, which was weird to me because of the pandemic. I told my grandmother this and she said that it’s because they don’t care about anyone else. I always think about that when I see someone not doing something that should be done.



2nd Paragraph: A few months ago, I visited my grandmother in South Carolina for the first time in a while. I hadn’t seen her due to the pandemic, so it was really nice to be around her. When we went the store for groceries, I noticed many people were not wearing masks. This was weird to me since I was so used to seeing lots of people wearing masks. I told my grandmother how I felt about it and she told me that those kinds of people on care about themselves. I thought about it for awhile after that and realized how selfish some people were. So, whenever I see people who do things that don’t help benefit others, I always think about what my grandmother said.

I was at six flags with my friends! There was a blue sky and no clouds in site. We have been waiting all summer long! We want to go in the best ride there is the Goliath! It’s the biggest roller coaster it has so many big hills that go to sudden stop. We went on it out eyes about to fall out of our heads. We were so scared to get to the very tippy top! Then whoosh! Twists and turns I couldn’t even deceive where we were going! I had a great time at the amusement park and hope to go again one day!


At the top of the Goliath, the musical roar of the amusement park dimmed, letting in the line of my friend Allies excited giggles and crinkle of paper from the rolled up bag of popcorn she held right in one small fist. We shared a grin as we kicked our feet out at the open air in front of us. I loved it this moment, I live for this moment every single year. When we teach the top of the thrilling rotation of the cart. I pulled in a deep breathe. For one moment everything seemed so clear, so full of potential! Everything felt so reachable. I felt as though I could do anything I set my mind to! The tracks shuddered to life, pulling forward, and down! As we sank toward the ground my mind remembered all the fun times!
