The Chinese government is run under the CCP a.k.a the Chinese Communist Party, because they are communist they want Hong Kong to be under their control like the mainland.

I would like to say that Hong Kong is a Chinese Special Administrative Region, because of British colonization. It was agreed that Hong Kong would stay separate from China in 2047 and that their way of life was not affected. So Hong Kong is not a part of China, yet.
