Answer:

They don't move because any rational driver would hit the brakes. They would get out of the car, call the police, and get the other person's details. Even if they stick together, they can still stop. Tell your math teacher this is a bad example for a problem, as it doesn't make any sense and gives a bad example of the real world. If you continue to drive after your car gets hit, the other person can drive away and you will be stuck with damage dealt to your car. This ruins lives since the force from a car travelling 2 and a half times faster than the front car, dealing MASSIVE damage to the front car. The person would sustain major wounds and most of their wallet would be emptied into paying for hospital bills. The person could get paralysed and may even die. Even if they survive, hospital bills and insurance bills would ruin their life permanantly. This happened to a distant family member and he was an old man. He was in a coma for a solid 3 months. The man who hit him got away since my uncle decided to continue driving, to maybe pull over later. He didn't realize the damage he and his car sustained until he lost too much blood and the pain kicked in.
